Donor's Note ~ Special Volume - Fall 2008

With the end of the Cold War, a rather new set of issues—often identified as global issues—has emerged, and while the US–European dialogue remains extremely important, its great value now is as a tool for promoting a coordinated, cooperative approach to the global problems that each of these two major power centers face.

The environment is no doubt one of the most pressing issues facing the world. I believe the Bologna Center is the perfect institution to address this issue because of its interdisciplinary program and its international network. My choice to fund a Program in Environmental Policy Studies at the Bologna Center was also guided by the spirit of recognition for the support the school provided me while I was a student there.

I am truly grateful for the efforts the Center and its students are making in the field of environmental studies. I applaud the production of this first issue of the Bologna Center Journal on the environment, which clearly attests to the excellent and multi-faceted education offered by the Center.
